Tons of Fun for Children at the Library

October 31, 2014

November is a great time to curl up with a good book. The Sequoyah Regional Library System services the communities in the Woodstock area and has plenty to offer for children throughout the month of November.Fall Reading

Library Events for Children

Family story times and lap-sit story times are offered throughout the month of November. The family story times are designed for children of all ages. Books are shared, and fun activities that go with the stories are provided. A take home sheet is also given to parents at family story time to keep the learning going at home.

Lap-sit story time is designed for 1-3 year old children. Beginning reader and literacy activities are included to introduce the youngest of learners to the wondrous world of reading!

In addition to the story times provided at the various locations throughout the library system, there are many adventurous activities planned for young readers in the month of November. Don’t miss these events featuring young reader favorites:

Percy Jackson Adventure

Percy Jackson fans will unite on November 5, 2014 at the RT Jones Library. Make sure you register for this fun-filled event that is sure to be loads of fun with Percy Jackson themed games and a scavenger hunt.

Lego Club

If you have Lego fanatics in your home, then you will not want them to miss the Lego Club at the Woodstock Public Library on Nov. 16. Children will have the opportunity to build a special Lego creation that will be displayed at the library.

Bookmark Book Club for Kids

Encourage your children to share what they’ve read with other children to build their reading comprehension. The Bookmark Book Club for Kids takes place at the Woodstock Public Library on Nov. 18.

Duct Tape Creations

If you’ve got Duct tape fans in your household, then the Rose Creek Public Library is a great place for them to come Nov. 19. They will have a chance to make a bracelet or other crafty creations using duct tape, and the duct tape will be provided. Perhaps this will be the inspiration for some to become the future winners of the Duck brand Stuck at Prom Scholarship Contest. After all, it was Sequoyah High School students Caden Kluge and Ashton Woolen that won in 2013.

Reading Dogs

If you’ve got a child at home that is apprehensive about reading out loud to you, then the Reading Dogs may be the answer! Check the schedule for locations and times to book an appointment for your child to read to a furry friend.

Find out more details about these reading opportunities the month of November on the Sequoyah Regional Library System Youth Events calendar.

In addition to the local library events offered during the month of November, it is important to note that National Young Reader’s Week takes place in November. This annual event takes place the second week of November. Find out more about National Young Reader’s Week at bookitprogram.com.

Picture Book Month is also celebrated in the month of November. No matter what age you are, pictures are still worth 1,000 words! If you have a young child at home, this is a great opportunity to introduce and reinforce the power of early reading skills with picture books.
