Planning a staycation for fall break? Here are some things to do Around Woodstock!

September 11, 2014

Cherokee County Schools will be closed Sept. 15th-19th for fall break. If you are looking for local things for the kids to keep busy with over break without breaking the bank, we have a few suggestions to offer:

Get Out and Get Fit

Make it a goal to explore a hiking or biking trail in our community over the fall break. We’ve shared about the trail system recently, but want to encourage you to take a look at the featured article on the Greenprints Trail System in the September issue of the Around Woodstock magazine. This includes a helpful map and other details to guide you to many of the great trails and parks in our area.

Love the Library

Help encourage your children’s love of reading with visits to the library over break. This may help them meet their Accelerated Reader goals that they have, or allow them a little extra pleasure reading over the break. In addition to encouraging good reading habits.

Check out the other events the Sequoyah Regional Library is offering:

Drop-in Crafternoon

This is free for children of all children who are accompanied by an adult. Crafternoons will be taking place from 2-4pm at a few different locations. Stop by Rose Creek Library on Sept. 16, Woodstock Library on Sept. 17, and Hickory Flat Library on Sept. 18.

Woodstock Lego Club

Lego fanatics get to live out their excitement at the library when they have the opportunity to create a Lego project. Projects are double the fun with a specific theme in place that children must work independently or with a team to capture as a Lego creation. This event takes place at the Woodstock Library at 3pm on Sunday, Sept. 21. Check out the Woodstock Public Library Lego Club on Facebook to see what they’ve done in the past and what the plans are for the future!

Brown Bag Concert Series

Enjoy a free concert at the Park at City Center in downtown Woodstock. Part of the Brown Bag Concert Series, FreezeWire will be sharing classic rock and blues. Gather the kiddos, pack your lunches, and enjoy a free concert in the park on Thursday, Sept. 18 from noon to 1pm.Brown Bag Lunch Series

Are you ready for some Football?

Share your love of sports and sportsmanship by visiting one of the Cherokee County High School football games taking place on Friday, Sept. 19. Many of the games are listed in the Around Woodstock magazine and on the high school websites.

We hope you and your children enjoy the fall break around Woodstock. Feel free to share with us what activities you choose to do while you are around and about on our Facebook and on Twitter.
