Sunday evenings are for reflecting on the past week and preparing for the coming week. As you plan for the week ahead, we give you a little food for thought: how to take an hour (or less) of your week to help those directly in our community through MUST Ministries.
What is MUST Ministries?
MUST is a Georgia based nonprofit with multiple branches throughout North Georgia. The volunteer-driven organization works to help individuals, families and children with basic needs. The goal is to bring together individuals to respond to God’s challenge to minister to others with compassion and love, without judgment of beliefs, background or circumstances of those who are serving or being served.
How does it work?
Each location offers different programs the Cherokee County location specializes in food, clothing and employment services. Folks who come to MUST for help can participate in a variety of classes in the classroom that are taught by their amazing volunteers, receive meal support, and clothing.
How can you help?
Each summer, MUST volunteers organize a summer lunch program for children who are eligible to receive a free or reduced-price lunch during the school year. The program began in 1995, and last year with all locations combined, 7,000 children were fed each day. Community support is needed to continue to help so many students. Individuals, families, church groups and business organizations are asked to donate completed sack lunches or any of the ingredients that are packed in the lunches.
Each lunch includes:
- a sandwich
- sweet or salty snack
- a fruit
- a juice box.
It’s that simple.
Whether you want to grab a few extra groceries and teach your kids how to directly help those around them, suggest this as an activity for your next church group meeting, or even propose it to your bosses as a way to give back to your community, MUST would love your help.
