Homelessness exists in Cherokee County. It may not always be visible, and there are often situations in which people are on the verge of becoming homeless. It is the goal of MUST Ministries to get an updated Point in Time count and Homeless Count for the area.
In 2011, MUST Ministries helped take part in the homeless counts in Cherokee County and found that nearly three-quarters of the homeless population in our area are women. This year, in an effort to get new data, MUST Ministries is seeking volunteers.
Volunteer Time
If you are able to volunteer your time on the evening of Monday, Jan. 26, please contact Melissa Hall of MUST Ministries at mhall@mustministries.org or at 770-721-2927. A training will be provided at 5pm, and the data collection for the Survey Team will take place between 6-8pm.
Volunteer Resources
The Survey Team will be giving “thank you” bags of personal items to those that participate in the survey. These will consist of items such as deoderant, toothpaste, a toothbrush, body wash, socks, gloves, granola bars, and more. Please contact the program director for the Cherokee Program Services Center, Kendall Jones at kjones@mustministries or at 770-721-2923 for more information regarding volunteering materials and supplies for the “thank you” bags.
Finally, MUST Ministries is requesting any information that would support them in contacting individuals within Cherokee County that are homeless, staying with others or in temporary housing, or those that are within a few weeks or even days of facing homelessness. If you have any information to help connect MUST Ministries and the Survey Team with these individuals, please contact the program director Kendall Jones at kjones@mustministries.org or at 770-721-2923.
