Congratulations Holly Springs!

February 16, 2016

As you may have read in our latest issue, we are so proud to announce that Holly Springs Elementary School was named a 2015-16 Microsoft Showcase School. Only 400 schools worldwide have achieved this recognition and we are over-the-moon delighted that Holly Springs is among those.

What is STEM?STEM

Science

Technology

Engineering

Math

A STEM-based education means that teachers are using science, technology, engineering and math to teach students using the most effective method: hands-on, problem-based learning. The skills and knowledge in these areas sets a valuable foundation for them to build on as they grow older to achieve “real world” success.

How does a school qualify to be a Microsoft Showcase School?

In order for a school to qualify, the school must have a strong passion for modernization and use technology that will prepare students for their future. Essentially, these schools have created a whole-school learning environment empowered by technology, specifically, Microsoft technology. The program is a leadership-focused award that recognizes the educators who have embraced and amplified the use of technology to drive school-wide transformation and efficiencies.

Within these schools, a large portion of the educators must be Microsoft Innovative Educators (MIEs), with at least two Microsoft in Education Expert Educators (MIE Experts).

Part of the Microsoft Showcase School “rubric” includes:

  • Leadership: Vision, strategic planning and sustainability
  • Teaching and learning: Curriculum, content and assessment, inclusion and accessibility, learning spaces (online and physical)
  • Technical capacity: Device density, use of Microsoft solutions (e.g., O365, OneNote etc.)
  • Organizational capacity: Leadership structures, partnerships and community

What does this award mean?Microsoft Showcase School

This award only solidifies what we already know about our educators: they are amazing. They have gone above and beyond to bring the best technology and learning techniques to our children. They have worked relentlessly learning and educating themselves to give their students a foundation they can grow upon throughout their educational journey. These individuals are the backbone of our community and an asset to our future. We are grateful for all that you do and we will continue to support you in your endeavors, and shamelessly brag about your achievements.
