Concerts, Doughnuts and New Trails On Tap

December 30, 2016

Charlie Daniels Band

This is going to be an exciting year for the City of Woodstock! The first special occasion will be the 20th anniversary of the Woodstock Summer Concert series. What better way to celebrate this milestone than with the series’ first year at Northside Hospital Cherokee Amphitheater, north Georgia’s newest outdoor music venue. The 2017 season opens on May 12 with the Charlie Daniels Band headlining the show. The second concert that can be announced at this time will be on July 8 with Drivin’ N’ Cryin’ headlining the show. More information will be announced at a later date.

In January 2017, construction will begin on a new portion of the trail system. Funded through the 2007 county parks bond, this approximately 1.5-mile segment will connect the Noonday Trail at Woofstock Park to Woodstock High and Woodstock Middle schools, and Towne Lake Parkway. The construction phase is anticipated to take 14 months. Adding to the 2017 trail construction is the Rubes Creek extension, which will connect the Rubes Creek Trail to Arnold Mill Road, allowing access to the trail from downtown Woodstock.

Also in the new year, Cherokee County will welcome its first Krispy Kreme with a new store to open off Highway 92 in Woodstock. This site is currently home to an unoccupied business. Redevelopment of a shopping center in Woodstock, the Shops at Buckhead Crossing, is also in the plans for the new year, with Sprouts Farmers Market moving in as the anchor store. Tuesday Morning will move into a different space within the shopping center. Sprouts Farmers Market is scheduled to open in the summer.

Finally, 2017 will bring a Costco Warehouse to Woodstock. The development of Costco Warehouse, a membership warehouse club “dedicated to bringing its members the best possible prices on quality, brand-name merchandise,” on Ridgewalk Parkway will also bring positive change to Ridgewalk Parkway. A Development of Regional Impact (DRI) study was done by the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) as required by the Georgia Regional Transportation Authority (GRTA). As a result, road improvements will take place on Ridgewalk Parkway to assist in managing the increase in traffic generated by Costco Warehouse as well as surrounding development at this site. Costco Warehouse is tentatively scheduled to open late this year.

On behalf of Woodstock city officials and staff, we wish you a Happy New Year!
