Christmas and Community

October 21, 2015

We know that it is still October, and most of you are still completing final preparations for Halloween. After that, you’ll be busy making those Thanksgiving plans. Yet, with the countdown on, it is important that we keep in mind just how close the Christmas holidays are and how important it is to give back to the community.

In our October Around Woodstock issue, we shared two opportunities to help those in need this upcoming holiday season. In case you missed it there, we wanted to make sure you were aware of the upcoming Junior Service League of Woodstock Holiday Tour of Homes and the Must Ministries Toy Shop.

Visit WoodstockHoliday Tour of Homes

Each year the Junior Service League of Woodstock puts on the Holiday Tour of Homes. This year marks the 19th annual event for the group of women that are committed to giving back to the community. Tickets are $20 each, and over the years the Tour of Homes has generated more than $350,000 to give back to the community. Donations from the 2015 Holiday Tour of Homes in Woodstock will assist The Anna Crawford Children’s Center, B.E.A.T.S., Children’s Haven (C.A.S.A.), and the Volunteer Aging Council. This year’s event will take place on Nov. 14 and 15, mark your calendars and get your get your tickets now so you don’t miss this annual treat!

Toy Shop

Visit the Must Ministries and you’ll see the phrase hope is a must. This is true throughout the year, but we can’t think of a better time of year than Christmas to help spread hope and cheer. Simply donating new unopened and unwrapped items can make a difference. Parents that wouldn’t have another way to provide a Christmas for their children, will have the opportunity to choose from these items at the MUST Toy Shop for their children. Suggested donations listed on MUST Ministries website include the following:

  • toys, stuffed animals, puzzles
  • games: board & electronic
  • books, bikes, jewelry, dolls
  • cameras, sports equipment
  • socks, t-shirts, underwear, hats, coats, gloves, scarves & pjs
  • throw blankets, sleeping bags
  • book bags & school supplies

If you are interested in donating or volunteering your time at the Toy Shop, please contact MUST Ministries for more details.

What are your favorite ways to spread cheer during the holidays? Please share with us if there are other events or organizations that are helping to make a difference to those in needs such as the ones listed here. We’re always looking to add events to our community calendar.
