“Cherokee County’s time is now,” stated Misti Martin, the president of the Cherokee Office of Economic Development (COED) after the Cherokee Career Expo. The Expo took place at the Northside Hospital-Cherokee Conference Center. It was organized in a rather short period of time in direct response to the need identified by COED interviews and surveys of existing industries in the county. Time and time again president Martin heard the need for expanding the work force within the county.
It seems that the first Expo was quite a success as more than 900 applicants showed up in search of a job. Fortunately, Cherokee County is growing, as predicted. In 2009 the Atlanta Regional Commission predicted a sharp increase in job growth within Cherokee County and believed that the region would be the next to grow. During the Expo it seems that prediction came true as recruiters actively sought applicants for about 600 open positions. For those that have been in the market for employment, this was surely a welcomed event.
If you are in the market for employment, chances are that this event will take place again. In the meantime, take a look at the Cherokee Chamber of Commerce Calendar for upcoming opportunities. Last year they hosted a Resumes and More workshop and the Master’s Training Center offers a variety of workshops and coaching opportunities as well.
