It seems it is that time of year again: flu season! If you want to avoid the flu, and keep your family healthy, there are number of things you can do. Read on for three great tips:
Vaccination
The flu can affect everyone, even healthy people and children, so your first step is getting a flu shot. This vaccine is updated every year, which means you will be protected against the newest strains.
Today, most insurance carriers cover the vaccine, so there should be no out-of-pocket expense for you.
Keep it Clean
During flu season, preserve your health by never touching your eyes, nose or mouth without first washing your hands. If a family member is sick, keep your distance and always wash your hands after being in contact with them, or with anything they have touched. Keep hand sanitizer around, just to be extra careful.
Clean all surfaces with disinfecting wipes or sprays, including computer keyboards, phones, door knobs, kitchen and bathroom counters, tables, etc.
Cover Up
Remember to cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when coughing or sneezing and throw away the tissues after each use. Teach your children to cough or sneeze in their elbows when tissues are not available. This is especially important at school where germs are floating around!
