On pages 14 & 15 of this month’s Around Woodstock, an article was written that was touched our hearts. It was written by the Dillon family on their time at A Night to Shine.
A Night to Shine was an event held last month at First Baptist Woodstock for our resident special needs teens. Woodstock Baptist Church
was one of only a handful around the United States and eight countries selected to hold this incredible event hosted by the Time Tebow Foundation. We were even so fortunate as to have Tim Tebow himself as a guest.
But he was not the star of the evening. The star was not singular, but plural. The stars of the evening were the beautiful girls in their gowns and hair done so perfectly. The stars were the young men looking so dashing in their tuxedos. The stars were their parents who help them become the sweet, kind, beautiful adults they are becoming.
From bright lights to a red carpet complete with cameras flashing and others cheering them on, the evening couldn’t have been more special. They even had balloon animals and swords and Chik-Fil-A catered. Parents who typically only see each other in therapy office waiting rooms or school meetings, got to join together to watch their kids dance, play in the photo booth, make new friends -feel included, things each generation should get to do more often.
If you have never met a special needs child, you are missing out. They are some of the kindest people on Earth, who can teach us just as much about ourselves, as they can themselves. We are so thankful that A Night to Shine came to our community to give our special needs community this beautiful night.
Thank you, Tim Tebow, for using your influence to bring nights like these to those who otherwise might not have had their chance to shine.
