The Atlanta Regional Commission has gathered quite of bit of data regarding the population of those 55 and older in Cherokee County. It seems that this specific segment of the population is growing. In fact, the projected growth of the 55+ population in Cherokee County is expected to increase by 247% from 2005 to 2030.
With the growing segment of the population represented within this demographic category, it is important that awareness of senior related issues and concerns be made known. As a result, the Cherokee Triad – S.A.L.T. sponsors numerous events and provides multiple resources to help senior citizens in Cherokee County with a variety of concerns.
As a national community policing initiative, Triad exists to help seniors, professionals within law enforcement, and community groups partner together to meet the needs of senior citizens regarding crime prevention and safety. This national organization is present in Cherokee County with the Seniors and Law Enforcement Together (S.A.L.T.) Council.
Over the years, events have included seminars, workshops, expos, and health fairs. The upcoming Cherokee S.A.L.T. Council Senior Extravaganza is taking place on Saturday, April 25 from 9am-1pm at the Cherokee County Parks and Recreation Building. Over 70 vendors and exhibitors are expected. There will be raffles every 30 minutes, door prizes every 15 minutes, fitness classes, a fashion show, and workshops covering identity theft, elder abuse, and scam avoidance.
